Description

Grant support will allow the Ponder Art Gallery of Benedict College, an HBCU in Columbia, South Carolina, to survey, catalogue, digitize, and re-house its permanent collection of 200 works of art. The overarching project goal is to provide ready access to the collection, for BC students and a wider public who, to-date, are little acquainted with the holdings. Led by the Ponder’s director, Wendell Brown, the project will advance collection care and study and will provide faculty and students with new opportunities to engage with art on campus, in the gallery and across curricular coursework. A key project outcome will be a collections webpage on the BC website. The project will be carried out by museum staff and web consultants. Five BC students will also be actively engaged in the work, with new opportunities for training in museum practice.
