This grant will support a four-part project titled “Of Legacy and Divergence: Art of the American West in the 21st Century,” including a collaborative exploration of the museum’s Art of the American West collection, a community-curated exhibition from the collection, a subsequent reinstallation of a permanent collection gallery (2025), and an anthology of collection-focused inter-disciplinary writing. To achieve new understandings of the art of the American West informed by wide-ranging contemporary perspectives, the project will seek to embed community-engaged practice, beginning with conversations and convenings with diverse local and regional stakeholders, artists, and knowledge holders.
