Description

Following a five-year publication project documenting the recent gift of the Thomas W. Weisel Family Collection of Native American Art, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco will reinstall its Arts of the Americas collection according to the collaborative and multi-vocal methodology that informs that publication. Grant funds will be focused on the installation of Native North American Art, including support for the continuing, collaborative curatorial exchange with artists, scholars, and culture-bearers from communities across Native America. Set to debut in 2025, the galleries will celebrate the vibrancy and diversity of Indigenous American art and artists and exemplify culturally-sensitive stewardship practices and Native American perspectives across the installation and narrative framework. The grant will additionally support digital and video project components to create wider-reaching, virtual access to the collections and reinstallation.
