Congratulations to Casey Herrick, 2018-19 Luce Scholar, who spent his Luce Year at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, China. The work he created during his year there—9 oil paintings, 4 watercolors, and his sketchbooks—was exhibited in a solo show entitled “The Beginning of Man.” Scholars and art professionals who attended the opening praised Herrick’s ability to capture poignant, realistic expressions in his figurative work and to draw emotional responses from his audiences.
