Mississippi Museum of Art and Tougaloo College Release Art and Civil Rights Initiative Digital Catalogue

Since 2017, the Mississippi Museum of Art and Tougaloo College have partnered on The Art and Civil Rights Initiative to present works from both institutions’ collections as a means of engaging the community on issues of race and racism, past and present. The five resulting exhibitions and related programs—including public lectures and museum internships—are documented in a recently released digital catalogue.

“The Art and Civil Rights Initiative builds upon the Museum’s tradition of exploring and commemorating important civil rights events through the lenses of the visual arts,” said Betsy Bradley, Director of the Mississippi Museum of Art. “In addition to an exceptional art collection, Tougaloo College has a rich history of civil and social activism, and we are honored to have partnered with them on this historic initiative.”
